By Mehdi Sepahvand - Trend:

An affiliate of a powerful Iranian company which produces gearboxes for wind turbines has made only one product to be used in wind farms so far.

The first and only machine to be produced was installed about three years ago at Manjil Wind Farm, Kourosh Nadimi, director of sales and marketing of Saipa Heavy Dies Manufacturing Corporation, told Trend on the sidelines of the INOTEX 2015 innovation and tech show in Tehran June 10.

The turbines can produce 660 KW per hour electric power, he said, adding the company has so far built one of the machines, indigenizing the technology.

As Iran's Organization for New Energy has plans to increase the share of renewable energy forms in the energy basket, there is hope that the machines will find more use in the future, Nadimi said.

While the average international share of renewable energies in the energy basket is over 10 percent, the number is less than 0.01 percent for Iran, said Ali Mohammad Shaeri, head of the Environment and Sustainable Development Staff of the Tehran Municipality on May 26.

Unfortunately, the abundance of fossil fuels in Iran has made us think less about new and renewable energy forms, whereas the world is moving toward using new energy, he said.

The country used 1,271 billion cubic feet of gas, as well as 28 billion liters of gas oil and fuel oil for power generation last Iranian fiscal year, which ended on March 20, 2014.
