By Mehdi Sepahvand -- Trend:

German investors are going to build a windfarm in the central Iranian province of Chahar Mahal va Bakhtiari, Malek Mohammad Qorbanpour, consultant to the province's governor-general said, IRNA news agency reported December 22.

He went on to add that the company has carried out numerous similar projects in Germany and China, according to the news agency.

It is expected that the project's executive operations begin in late January, according to Qorbanpour.

He said that the company is also going to carry out a number of solar power plant projects in the same province.

The first phase of the project will yield an output of 10 megawatts of electricity, he said, adding that the German company has been authorized to carry out projects with a total output of 100 megawatts.

The official said that the province has the capacity for the production of 2,000 megawatts of power from windfarms.

It is estimated that the company will invest from $1.2 million to $1.5 million per each megawatt of power produced, he said.

The Iranian ministry of energy had earlier announced that after sanctions on Iran are lifted, the country will attract European investment in renewable energy projects.

Renewable energy counts for less than one percent of the country's energy basket.

Iran expects the removal of economic sanctions in the first month of 2016.
