By Emil Ilgar - Trend:

Iran increased gas re-injection to old oil fields by 19 million cubic meters per day, to 92 million cubic meters per day during the nine months of the current fiscal year, said Iran's Oil Ministry in an energy summary report, obtained by Trend.

About 80 percent of Iran's active oil fields are in their second half-life and need 290 million cubic meters per day of gas re-injection to maintain the production level.

The report says that increasing gas re-injection is in light of gas production growth.

"The enriched gas production level increased from 635 million cubic meters per day in the fiscal year corresponding to 2014 to 680 million cubic meters per day in the last fiscal year. The figure reached 676 million cubic meters per day in eight months of the current fiscal year (March 21 to Nov. 23)," said the report.

"The enriched gas production increased to 736 million cubic meters per day in late November and to 807 million cubic meters per day in late December," read the report.

The enriched gas production from giant South Pars gas field reached 408 million cubic meters per day in early 2016, about 5.16 percent more than the same period of last year.
