Iran’s car import almost halves

Iran imported 51,522 sedan cars, worth $1.23 billion, during the last Iranian fiscal year that ended on March 20, according to the latest report by Iran's Customs Administration, published March 28.

Iran's sedan imports registered a fall by 50.4 percent in terms of amount and 42.8 percent in terms of value year on year.

It should be noted that Iran has banned importing cars with engines up to a 2500CC capacity.

Iran's sedan car imports stood at 102,000, worth $2.128 billion, during the fiscal year to March 2015, some 31 and 30 percent more in terms of amount and value respectively year on year.

In the first 11 months of the last Iranian fiscal year (March 2015 to February 2016), 878,644 cars were manufactured in Iran, indicating a 15.6-percent decrease year on year.

Iranian carmakers produced 803,455 sedan cars (8.9 percent fall), 64,975 pick-ups (53.5 percent fall), 9,153 trucks (51.7 percent fall), 466 minibuses (100 percent rise) and 605 buses (4.5 percent rise) in the 11-month period.
