Tehran, Iran, April 4

By Mehdi Sepahvand - Trend:

Iran will have renewable energy power plants with a total output of 500 megawatts if governmental organizations cooperate, CEO of Iran Renewable Energy Organization Mohammad Sadeq Zadeh said.

There have been a lot of hurdles on the path to realizing that, but most of them have been lifted with the support of the Energy Ministry, he underlined, SHANA news agency reported April 4.

He expressed hope that the remaining obstacles will be lifted in a few months.

The official added that recently the private sector has increasingly expressed interest in investing in renewable energy projects.

Renewable energy currently comprises less than one percent of Iran's energy basket. The country relies heavily on oil and gas as energy resources.

Energy intensity in Iran is also very high.
