By Khalid Kazimov - Trend:
Iran harvested more than 1.5 tons of caviar in its fish farms over the past Iranian year (ended March 20), indicating a 25-percent increase year-on-year.
Head of Iran's Fisheries Organization Hassan Salehi said his organization plans to harvest 100 tons of caviar from the fish farms by 2021, the Fars news agency reported June 1.
Pointing to the ban on fishing for the caviar-producing sturgeon in the Caspian Sea, he said all the caviar supplied in the country has been harvested from the fish farms.
Salehi said the private sector is involved in exporting caviar, adding that the European countries are among Iran's main customers.
With $1.7 million worth of exports, Iran's caviar exports registered a 46-percent increase in terms of volume over the last year.
