Iraq has lifted the ban on the import of dairies from Iran, said Iran's Trade Promotion Organization.

The move came after the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) confirmed May 31 that the Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is under control in the country, Fars news agency reported June 7.

Iraq banned the import of dairies from Iran on May 26 due to concerns over outbreak of FMD in the country.

Last month, Iranian media outlets reported that the FMD has killed some 16,000 livestock over the past two months in the country.

The highly communicable viral disease also killed about 15,000 livestock over the last Iranian fiscal year (ended on March 20).

Reportedly, about 13,000 sheep and goats, 1,800 cows died due to the illness over the last fiscal year.
