By Khalid Kazimov - Trend:

The Islamic Republic's capacity for refining oil is expected to reach 1.85 million barrels per day over the current Iranian calendar year (ending March 20), an Iranian oil official said.

Director for production coordination and supervision at National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC) Saeed Mahjoubi has said that the capacity will increase following the measures taken to overhaul and develop the country's refineries, SHANA reported.

He further added each refinery needs about $3 billion in investment to carry out the development plans.

Since the sanctions against the Islamic Republic were lifted in January, Iran has increased the crude oil export to 2.2 million barrels per day aiming to redeem its previous place in the world market.

Iran's oil output also reached 3.5 million barrels per day in April, according to the OPEC.
