Some 400 trucks commute between Iran, Azerbaijan per day

Some 400 trucks commute between Iran and Azerbaijan on a daily basis, an Iranian transportation official said.

Mohammadjavad Atrchian, an official with Iran’s transportation ministry, has said that 200 trucks leave Iran for Azerbaijan per day, Mehr news agency reported.

Atrchian added that in the meantime 200 trucks also carry consignments from Azerbaijan to Iran.

Elaborating on cooperation in transportation sector between the two neighboring countries, the official voiced Iran’s plan for launching a new transportation route for Iranian trucks crossing through Azerbaijan and Georgia to reach the Black Sea and eventually the Europe.

In addition to Iran and Azerbaijan, he added that some other countries, including Georgia, Greece, Bulgaria will get involved.

The new route will connect the Persian Gulf to the Black Sea and it is considered as an alternative route for Iranian trucks bypassing Turkey.
