The National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC) drilled about 109,108 meters of oil and gas wells using its drilling fleet during the four-month period from March 20, the oil ministry’s SHANA news agency reported Aug. 9.
The figure indicates a huge rise by 97,106 meters as compared to the same period of preceding year.
The company has carried out drilling of 25,409 meters of offshore and onshore oil and gas wells during the fourth Iranian calendar month (June 20-July 20).
The one-month drilling operations included 17,568 meters of developmental wells, 2,962 meters of delineation wells and 403 meters of exploratory wells, as well as 458 meters of repair drillings.
Currently, NIDC owns 75 light, heavy and ultra-heavy onshore and offshore drilling rigs which are operational under the supervision of the National Iranian South Oil Company, Iranian Offshore Oil Company, Petroleum Engineering and Development Company, and Pars Oil and Gas Company.
By holding 157.8 billion barrels of recoverable crude oil reserves, Iran possesses the world's fourth largest reserves of crude oil. The Islamic Republic also holds 34 trillion cubic meters of proven gas reserves, sharing 18.2 percent of total global gas reserves, which puts the country in the top of the world's gas holders list.
