Iran’s iron ore output increases by 16%

Iran’s major state-run iron ore producing companies have produced about 9.61 million tons of iron ore concentrate during the first four months of current Iranian fiscal year (March 20-July 20).

The figure indicates a 16-percent increase compared to the same period of the previous year, the Islamic Republic’s Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) reported Aug. 10.

Chadormalou ranked first among the companies producing 3.25 million tons of iron ore concentrate followed by Gol Gohar with 3.5 million tons of production.

Markazi (1.274 million tons), Middle East Mines Industries Development Holding Company (1.171 million tons), and Sangan (410,382 tons) were other leading state-run iron ore producers.

The aforementioned companies (excluding Middle East Mines Industries Development Holding Company, and Gol Gohar) plus Jalalabad, Mishdavan and the Iranian Central Plateau Iron Ore Mines Complex produced 2.14 million tons of iron ore granule in total, during the four-month period, 17 percent less year on year.

The companies’ iron ore concentrate output stood at 1.59 million tons in the fourth Iranian calendar month (June 20-July 20), indicating a rise by 25 percent year-on-year.

The state-run companies also produced 208,426 tons of iron ore granule in the one-month period, 35 percent less compared to the same period of preceding year.

The report does not include the volume of produced iron ore by private sector companies, which in total produce 14 million tons of iron ore annually.

Iran’s iron ore reserve stands at 5.1 billion tons, of which 2.8 billion tons are proven.
