Rouhani administration privatizes $12.5B of assets

The administration of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has carried out 38 percent of the entire privatization of governmental assets conducted over the past 15 years, according to Head of Iran’s Privatization Organization Mirali Ashraf Abdollahpouri Hosseini.

That amounts to over 391.809 trillion rials ($12.5 billion at 31,269 rials per USD) of privatized assets, he said, IRNA news agency reported September 5.

Last year (March 2015-16) 84 governmental companies were valued at 112.569 trillion rials for privatization, the official noted.

Over the same year, he further said, 230 enterprises worth 137.987 trillion rials were offered for privatization, of which 48 companies worth 37.329 trillion rials were sold.

Of last (Iranian) year’s privatized assets, some 81 percent worth 30.060 trillion rials constituted shares that went to public.

Since the Privatization Organization was launched in 2001, it has privatized 1,418.256 trillion rials of governmental shares, he underlined.
