By Fatih Karimov – Trend:

Iran’s Mobarakeh Steel Company plans to increase its crude steel output capacity by 10.3 million tons by March 2017, Bahram Sobhani, the company’s managing director, said.

The move will come in line with the country’s major plan to increase the crude steel output to 55 million tons per year till March 2021, Sobhani said, Mizan news agency reported Sept. 19.

Mobarakeh plant’s output capacity will increase by 1.8 million tons to 7.2 million tons by October at the first step, he added.

At present, Iran has a capacity to produce 25 million tons of crude steel annually, however the output stands at only 17 million tons because the production process has not been completed well.

The Islamic Republic’s steel output throughout 2015 is estimated to have hit 16.11 million tons. This in its own turn shows a decline of 1.4 percent year-on-year.

Iran also produced 16.331 million tons of crude steel in 2014.

The country’s crude steel production reached 15.421 million tons in 2013, which was 6.6 percent more than its preceding year.
