By Mehdi Sepahvand – Trend:

Iran’s northern provinces will not face any problem in the cold season even if gas import from Turkmenistan is stopped, said CEO of Iran Gas Transfer Company Said Tavakoli.

“Necessary measures have been taken to improve new facilities on the eighth cross-country pipeline so that no problem will surface in transferring gas,” he said, Mehr news agency reported October 8.

“We have already foreseen four different scenarios for gas transfer to northern areas,” he pointed out.

“The 48-inch pipeline from Damghan to Shahrud is one of the projects that will stabilize gas supply to the north,” he said. “Also, so far fundamental repair has been carried out over the first cross-country pipeline.”

Recently, CEO of the National Iranian Gas Company Hamid Reza Araqi said Iran has recently announced to Turkmenistan its ability to procure gas for northern Iranian provinces from domestic resources, adding that gas import from Turkmenistan is no longer an emergency need for Iran.
