Two Belgian banks have expressed readiness to finance various projects in Iran, IRNA news agency reported Nov. 1.
Although investment in Iran and financing projects still faces some problems, two Belgian banks are ready to get involved, Belgium’s Minister-President of Flanders and Flemish Minister for Foreign Policy and architectural heritage Geert Bourgeois said.
He did not unveil the banks’ name, saying that no agreement was signed so far regarding the issue.
Bourgeois expressed hope that a long-term cooperation will be formed soon between the banks and Iranian firms.
A Belgian trade delegation including 200 representatives from 140 companies arrived in Tehran on Oct. 30 to explore avenues of enhancing mutual economic cooperation with their Iranian counterparts during their two-day stay in Iran.
The delegates are active in various fields such as oil and gas equipment and services, commercial vehicles and auto parts, construction, interior decoration and architecture, flooring and textiles, forwarding and transport, new energies, food industry, information technology and etc.
Bourgeois further assured the Belgian companies that there is no concern about banking cooperation with Iran, and financing projects, as the conditions are improving.
He also announced that his country is setting up a commercial office in Iran.
Iran-Belgium mutual trade turnover currently stands at about $300 million.
