Iran has provided gas to some 10,000 new villages in the country since the beginning of Hassan Rouhani's presidency (mid 2013), the managing director of National Iranian Gas Company Hamidreza Araqi said Nov.11.

There are about 26,000 villages in Iran.

Araqi said that during 1980-2013, the number of total villages provided with gas was around 14,000, Shaha news agency reported.

Araqi said that currently about 700 million cubic meters of gas per day is consumed in the country.

Currently, about 82 percent of rural households are supplied with gas and Iran plans to increase this figure to 90 percent by March 2018.
