Iran installing 12,000-km optical fiber grid

An optical fiber grid, with a length of about 12,000 km, is being installed across Iran, Deputy of Information and Communications Technology Minister Mortaza Barari said Dec. 9.

He added that the government is doing its best to support international companies which have willingness to be involved in Iran’s IT sector.

Iran’s domestic network bandwidth stood at 4,000 gigabytes per second in September 2016.

Statistics of Iran’s Internet Penetration Management Portal put the number of internet users in Iran at 40 million, indicating that the internet penetration rate in the country stood at 53.29 percent in June 2014.
