Iran’s car imports increase by 64% in 8 months

Iran imported $27.383 billion worth of goods during the first eight months of its current fiscal year (March 20-Nov. 21, 2016), which indicates a 1 percent increase, compared to the same period of the previous year.

Iran imported some 21.563 million tons of goods during that period which is 6 percent less compared to March 20- Nov. 21, 2015, according to the latest statistics released by Trade Promotion Organization of Iran.

Car parts worth $1.094 billion topped the list of Iran's imported goods with 4 percent share from the country's total imports' value. Iran's car parts imports indicate a rise by 32 percent year on year.

After car parts, cars worth $1.057 billion, radar and radio navigation devices worth $903 million, corn worth $746 million, medical drugs worth $638 million, soybean worth $594 million, phones and modems worth $546 million and rice worth $516 million were other main imported goods of the Islamic Republic.

Import of radar and radio navigation devices registered a huge increase by 7622 percent in the first eight months of the current fiscal year, compared to the same period of the preceding year. Radar and radio navigation devices shared 3.3 percent of the country’s overall imports in terms of value.

Tehran's car import increased by 64 percent in terms of value, meanwhile corn imports indicated a fall by 21 percent in terms of value year on year.

The country's rice imports witnessed a rise by 10 percent in terms of value, however the value of the imported drugs registered a fall by 9 percent, according to the report.

The soybean imports also registered a rise by 9 percent year on year.

The average price for each ton of Iran's imported goods in the mentioned period was $1270, which is 7.7 percent more than the previous year.
