Iranian private sector building 7 power plants

The private sector in Iran is building seven power plants with a total output of 3,000 megawatts, according to Mehdi Khabbaz, an official with the Thermal Power Plants Holding Company.

The private sector in Iran has already built power plants worth 12,000 megawatts, and the mentioned plants will add 1,000 megawatts more, by March 2018, he told the IRIB news agency December 28.

He explained the projects are in the form of build, own, operate (BOO) contracts.

According to the latest weekly report released by Energy Ministry, Iran’s nominal power generation capacity stands at 75.916 GW – up by 1.8 GW since the beginning of the current fiscal year on March 21.

During the nine months of the current fiscal year (since March), Iran generated 226 billion kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity.
