Exports of Iran’s minerals increased by 50 percent during the first nine months of current fiscal year (March 20-Dec. 20, 2016), Iran's Deputy Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade Jafar Serghini said.
Iran exported $750 million worth of minerals during the mentioned period, Serghini said, Iran’s industry, mines and trade ministry’s official SHATA news portal reported Feb 6.
He also said that the Islamic Republic exported $5 billion worth of mineral industry products in the nine-month period as compared to the same period of the preceding year.
The figure indicates a rise by 16 percent year-on-year, the official added.
Serghini put the number of Iran’s active mines at 6,000, adding that in total 9,000 mines have received activity licence, however 3,000 mines are still inactive.
Mines and mining industry of the Islamic Republic exported $7.05 billion worth of goods and services over the last Iranian fiscal year.
According to Amir Sabbagh, an official with the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO), the mining sector had a share of $11.5 billion in the country’s trade turnover over the last Iranian year(ended March 2016).
He said the imports of the country’s mining sector in the mentioned period stood at $4.44 billion.
