Iran ready to resume gas export talks with Kuwait during President Hassan Rouhani’s trip to the country, Amir Hossein Zamaninia, Iran’s deputy oil minister for international and commercial affairs, told Mehr Feb. 15.
Rouhani has arrived to the Persian Gulf country of Oman. He will later leave Oman for Kuwait in the day.
According to an official document, prepared by Oil Ministry and seen by Trend, Iran was negotiating with Kuwait to export 3.1 billion cubic meters per year (bcm/yr) of gas before 2015, but they haven’t reached a deal.
Zamaninia also said that Iran had stopped talks with Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates to export gas, but Tehran is ready to resume talks.
Iran signed a framework agreement with Oman to export 10 bcm/yr of gas. Iran will also use Oman’s LNG plants to liquefy its gas and re-export it from there.
The sides haven’t finalized the construction of a 200-km undersea pipeline, estimated to cost $1.5 billion.
Iran and Oman signed the gas deal in 2013.
