Iran has discovered 2 billion barrels of shale oil, the first to be discovered shale reserve in Iran, said Bahman Soleimani, deputy director for exploration at the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC).
There is found to be 2 billion barrels of in-situ shale oil of the light type in Ghalikooh in Aligudarz, Luristan Province, the official told Tasnim news agency.
He also announced that studies are underway regarding shale gas reserves in the province. The studies will be complete by November, he said.
