Energy Minister of Russia Alexander Novak, who is visiting Iran, and Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh are expected to discuss cooperation between the two countries in energy sphere at a meeting this evening.
The sides are likely to discuss a deal on Russia’s purchase of Iran’s oil as well as swapping Russian gas through the Islamic Republic, Tasnim news agency reported.
Tehran and Moscow earlier discussed a deal on exporting 100,000 barrels of Iran’s oil to Russia on a daily basis. The talks however have so far yielded no results.
Trade turnover between Iran and Russia witnessed a surge by 60 percent over the last year climbing to about $2 billon.
However, observers believe that the surge in trade between the two countries, which came after removing nuclear related sanctions on the Islamic Republic last January, has not satisfied the expectations.
