Iran's car output reached 1.165 million units in 2016, the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA) reported.
The figure indicated a 18.6-percent rise year on year, which is the highest output growth rate among the car manufacturers in the world.
The Islamic Republic was the world's 18th biggest car manufacturer in 2016.
The country manufactured 1.074 passenger cars and 90,710 commercial vehicles in 2016, according to the OICA.
During the 12-month period 72.105 million of passenger cars as well as 22.871 million of commercial vehicles were manufactured by carmakers in the world. The world's vehicle production has increased by 4.5 percent year on year.
China was the biggest car manufacturer in the world with 28.118 million output in the 12-month period, followed by US (12.198 million), Japan (9.2 million), Germany (6.06 million), India (4.488 million) and South Korea (4.228 million).
Mexico with 3.597 million of vehicle production, Spain (2.885 million), Canada (2.37 million) and Brazil (2.156 million) took the next places among the top ten car manufacturers in the world.
