Iran plans steel industry ranking hike by 2025

In a master plan published by the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade, Iran has set a goal to improve its ranking in the world steel industry from the current 14 to 7 by 2025, Trend correspondent reported June 2.

In what follows, a summary of the goals set for the industry in the master plan is given.

The capacity for iron ore concentrate is set to increase from the current 37 to 76 million tons by the target year.

Iron pellet output is set to increase from 22 million to 76 million tons, while the DRI output is to hit 54 million tons, currently 23.7 million.

Raw steel output is to improve from 25.7 to 55 million tons, while steel products’ output is to increase from 33 to 78 million tons.

The share of steel industry’s added value in the economy will improve from 8.7 to 10.

The industry’s job creation will improve from 98.3 thousand to 148.5 thousand jobs.

The industry’s R&D budget share compared to its income will improve from 0.03 to 0.1 percent.

The steel industry’s share of industrial export will improve from 8 to 10.4 percent.

The value of steel industry exports will improve from $2.45 billion to $12 billion.

The cost of energy and water used in the industry compared to the production cost will improve from 2.85 to 2 percent.
