Iran has launched first direct flight between the coastal city of Bandar Abbas and Oman's capital – Muscat, ISNA reported Aug.7.

The roundtrip flight was carried out by Iran’s Kish Airlines.

The process of launching direct flights between Bandar Abbas, located on the coastline of Persian Gulf, and Muscat had took a year to be implemented, the report said.

Prior to the current information, Iran’s media outlets reported in February of 2017 that company called Qeshm Air would carry out these flights.

In January, it was announced that aviation officials from Iran and Oman agreed to increase the number of direct flights between the two neighboring countries to 28 per week.

The first direct flight from Muscat to Tehran landed at Tehran's Imam Khomeini International Airport in September of 2012.

Tehran has also launched a regular ferry line between Iran and Oman earlier.
