Iran plans to export surplus wheat to Indonesia, the Islamic Republic’s commercial attache to Indonesia, Anvar Kamari, said.

The PR department of the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran(TPOI) quoted Karami as saying that Indonesia is estimated to become the world’s biggest wheat importer in 2018, importing 12.5 million tons of the staple agricultural product.

The South eastern Asian country can be considered as main destination of Iran’s wheat exports, given the fact that the Islamic Republic plans to increase its wheat output, Kamari said.

Iran saw a considerable surge in the volume of wheat output over the current fiscal year (starting March 21, 2017).

Australia, Canada, Ukraine and the US are main suppliers of cereals, including wheat, to Indonesia.

According to the latest report by the agriculture ministry of Iran, the country’s exports of wheat surged by 1,351 percent over the first nine months of the current year.

Some 276,410 tons of wheat worth of $70.78 million was exported in the mentioned period.

The value of wheat exports in this period increased by 758 percent.

Indonesia was 10th target of Iran’s non-oil exports during the first 10 months of the current fiscal year, according to the TPOI’s latest data.

The country imported $465 million worth of goods from Iran, registering a huge rise by 267 percent.

The volume of Iran’s exports to the Asian country in the 10-month period amounted to 1.4 million tons, 98 percent more year-on-year.
