Iranian free trade zone interested in investing in freeway project(exclusive)

Aras Free Trade-Industrial Zone Organization has expressed interest in investing in a freeway segment in northwestern Iran, an official told Trend.

Khodaiar Khashe, the secretary of the committee of investors of freeways, has said that the free trade zone is planning to invest in the freeway segment linking Marand-Jolfa.

Saying that a freeway connecting southern Iran to the north is being completed, he added that the 63-kilometer long Tabriz-Marand segment is a part of the north-south freeway.

He further added that the north-south highway will be later followed by two segments of Jolfa and Bazargan.

Khashe also said that the Iranian government plans to invest in the Jolfa segment which would extend into the country’s borders with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

Aras Free Trade - Industrial Zone (AFZ) is located along Iran’s northwestern frontier with neighboring Azerbaijan’s autonomous republic of Nakhchivan and Armenia.

The Islamic Republic established the 51,000-hectares area back in 2003 in order to accelerate the economic development of this region.

Holders of normal passports travelling as tourists can enter Aras Free Zone without a visa with maximum stay of 2 weeks (extendable).
