Iranian horticultural output increases

Iran’s horticultural products amounted to 11.6 million tons in the last fiscal year, ended March 2018, the country’s Statistical Center said.

The figure indicates a rise by 4.8 percent year-on-year, according to the report.

Apple, grape, orange and date made 61 percent of Iran’s horticultural products in the 12-month period.

Iran produced 2.4 million tons of apple in the period, 14.4 percent more year-on-year, followed by orange (1.75 million tons), date (1.2 million tons) and grape (1.76 million tons).

Iran’s orange and date output registered increase by 12.5 and 1.4 percent, respectively, meanwhile grape output decreased by 5 percent year-on-year.

Horticultural areas in Iran is over 1.85 million hectares, according to the report.

More than 50 percent of the country's gardens is located in 11 provinces of Kerman, Fars, Khorasan Razavi, West Azerbaijan, East Azerbaijan, Mazandaran, Yazd, Isfahan, Gilan, Sistan and Baluchestan and Qazvin.

Iranian officials say that the country’s annual agricultural products stand at 120 million tons, worth $80 million.

Agricultural and food products accounted for 13 percent of Iran’s total non-oil exports during the last fiscal year, ended March 20.

Iran exported 6.130 million tons of agricultural and food products in the last fiscal year, 5 percent more year-on-year.

The value of the exports reached $5.93 billion, 4 percent more compared to the preceding year.

Pistachios, dairy products, sweets and chocolates, saffron, apples, dates and tomato paste were the main exported products in agriculture and food sector.
