The National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC) drilled over 69,377 meters of oil and gas wells using its drilling fleet during the first four months of Iran’s current fiscal year (March 20-July 21), Hamid Reza Khoshayand, deputy managing director of NIDC, said.
The figure indicates a fall by 28 percent compared to 96 kilometres of oil and gas wells drilled by the company during the same period of last fiscal year.
The company carried out drilling of 53 offshore and onshore oil and gas wells during the 4-month period, Khoshayand said, NIDC reported.
The wells included 25 development and three delineation wells as well as 25 repairing ones, Khoshayand said.
The National Iranian South Oil Fields Company (NISOC) shared 31 of the drilled wells, followed by Iranian Petroleum Engineering and Development Company (10 wells) and Iranian Offshore Oil Company (five wells), he added.
The NIDC owns 73 drilling rigs including 70 light, heavy and ultra-heavy onshore and three offshore rigs, he said.
The official added that “Fath 33” heavy onshore drilling rig has became operational in southern Fars province to drill eight exploration wells under a contract with the Exploration Directorate of the National Iranian Oil Company.
In the meantime, the NIDC press office quoted Mehran Alipour, head of the Special Operations Bureau at the NIDC, as saying that the company has carried out 15,833 meters of directional and horizontal drilling operations at Iran’s oil and gas fields during the first four months of the current fiscal year.
Iran uses horizontal and directional drilling for erupting wells, drilling a well with multiple branches and drilling multiple wells via an offshore rig as well as drilling in inaccessible areas such as residential regions and drilling on faults.
Over 20 companies in Iran are active in special drilling operations and 40 percent of directional and horizontal drilling operations in the country are carried out by NIDC.
