Baku, Azerbaijan, August 27
By Umid Niayesh - Trend:
Wind power plants account for 45 percent of Iran’s renewable energy power plants, Iran’s Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian said.
Ardakanian made the remarks during the inaugurated of the country’s biggest wind farm in northern country on Aug. 27, the state-run IRINN TV reported.
The minister said that nominal capacity of Iran’s renewable power plants stands at 640 megawatts, as of current.
Solar power plants account for 35 percent of the output, he added.
Iran has invested 86 million euros for construction of Tarom wind farm, which was inaugurated today.
The 61.4-megawatt wind farm is located near Tarom city, Qazvin province in an area of 170000 square kilometers.
The wind farm, which has been constructed within a year using the latest technology in the world, enjoys 18 turbines with production capacity of 3.4 megawatts. The power plant will help the country to decrease emission of 110,000 tons of greenhouse gases per year.
Tarom wind farm is constructed by the private sector through the finance provided by the National Development Fund of Iran and the Cooperative Development Bank.
Ardakanian said that Iran has a capacity to produce 30,000 megawatts of power via wind farms, expressing hope that the capacity will be materialized by contribution of private sector and the country’s banking system financing.
Currently, the nominal power generation capacity of Iran stands at 78,736 MW.
The country plans to increase its nominal electric generation capacity to 100,000 MW by 2025, 1,000 MW of which should be produced from solar energy.
During the first quarter of the current fiscal year (March 20 to June 22) Iran's power plants generated over 80,687 GWh (gigawatt hours) of electricity.
