Turkey’s gas imports from Iran witnessed a fall by 48.4 percent in June 2018 compared to the preceding year, according to the latest report released Aug. 27 by Turkey’s Energy Market Regulatory Body.
Turkey’s gas import from Iran amounted to 388 million cubic meters (mcm) in May 2018, compared to 751.2 mcm in the same month of 2017.
Natural gas import from Iran accounted for 13.3 percent of the country’s total gas imports in the one-month period, according to the data.
The Islamic Republic was Turkey’s third gas supplier in the period, after Russia and Azerbaijan, which supplied 1,444 mcm and 579 mcm of gas to Turkey, respectively, in June.

The Islamic Republic supplied 16.6 percent of Turkey’s gas demand in May 2018.
In January-June 2018, Iran exported 3,947 mcm of natural gas to Turkey, 16 percent less year-on-year (4,700.8 mcm in January-June 2017).
Turkey’s gas import from Iran in 2017 stood at 9.2 billion cubic meters (bcm).
Iran’s overall gas exports to Turkey amounted to 7.8 and 7.7 bcm in 2015 and 2016, respectively.
Turkey’s total natural gas import stood at 2,922 bcm in June 2018, registering a fall by 19.3 percent year-on-year.
Turkey also exported 25.9 million cubic meters of gas to Greece in June 2018, indicating a fall by 53 percent year-on-year.
