Iran exported 4.7 million worth of various cars in the first four months of the current fiscal year, started March 20, 2018.
According to a report released by Trade Promotion Organization of Iran (TPOI) on Aug. 29, the country’s car exports registered a six percent fall year-on-year.
Iran’s car exports were in decline in recent months, despite the fact that the country’s car industry experienced output increase, following lifting of international sanctions in 2016.
Iranian automakers exported 10,000 cars (worth over $10 million) the last fiscal year (ended March 20, 2017), which was 59 percent less compared to the 24,500 cars in the preceding year.
The country’s passenger car exports during the first nine months of the last fiscal year (started March 20, 2017) amounted to only 1891 vehicles.
According to the TPOI, Iraq was the main destination of Iran’s car exports. The Islamic Republic exported $3.8 million worth of cars to Iraq in the period 13 percent less year-on-year.
Iran also exported $300,000 worth of cars to Azerbaijan, followed by France, Syria, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and India.
Iran’s car export registered a record high in fiscal year to March 2011 and stood at 81,596, however the figure sharply fell in next year (fiscal year to March 2012) and accounted to 38,258 due to intensified international sanctions which targeted the country’s auto manufacturing industry.
The export even decreased to 10,000 in the fiscal year to March 2014, but revived again following the removal of the international sanctions against Iran’s car industry.
Iranian automakers exported 27,000 cars in the fiscal year to March 2015, but they failed to revive the exports to the pre-sanction period.
