Iran aluminum output sees growth over 5 months

Iran’s major aluminum companies produced 151,691 tons of aluminum products during the first five months of the current fiscal year (March 21-May 21).

According to Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization, the county’s aluminum output over five months to August 22 indicated a 10 percent increase compared with last year’s corresponding period, IRIB news agency reported on September 29.

Last year, Iran produced 137,473 tons of aluminum.

Iran Aluminum Company (Iralco) accounted for 74,764 tons of the total figure, followed by Hormozal Aluminum Company with 47,286 tons and Almahdi Aluminum Company with 29,641 tons.

Iran has a current aluminum nameplate capacity of 457,000 tons/year, of which about 437,000 tons/year are operational. IRALCO can produce 220,000 tons/year and Almahdi Hormozal Aluminum Company 237,000 tons/year. Both have some idled capacity due to issues with pollution.
