UNIDO working with Iran to cut energy consumption by 25%

There is intention to improve productivity of key industry sectors and to reduce energy consumption in Iran based on a 5-year program, Ugochi Daniels, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Iran said at an event dedicated to the "Industrial Energy Efficiency in Key Sectors in Iran Project" (IEE Project).

She noted that UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) attempts to successfully complete the measures necessary for development of industry. Therefore, it intends to reduce energy consumption in Iran as much as possible.

"We have started the work for reduction of energy consumption in industry by 25 percent beginning from 2010. A 5-year program has been adopted so that we are able to improve efficiency in key sectors," she said.

Daniels added that 5 key sector enterprises consume 75 percent of energy. "Therefore, by improving their efficiency, we can reduce their energy consumption," she noted.
