Iran discloses amount of funds allocated for restoration of Lake Urmia

The Plan and Budget Organization of Iran has announced that 2.220 trillion rials (about $52,857,142) have been allocated to the East Azerbaijan province for the implementation of the Urmia lake restoration projects, IRNA cited Nasser Hazrati, head of the budget and planning commitee of West Azerbaijan province, as saying.

He said that this figure is part of the funds approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.

Besides the West Azerbaijan province, the funds are also allocated to the Iranian Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Energy, the Environmental Protection Organization, the Forest, Rangeland and Watershed Organization, as well as the East Azerbaijan and Kurdistan provinces for the restoration of Lake Urmia, Hazrati added.

He added that the projects on cleaning of rivers, installation of equipment for water level measurement, supply of drainage water through filters, drawing up of land cadastral maps and other projects are underway.

The project on water supply from the southern province of East Azerbaijan to Lake Urmia is one of the most important projects related to the restoration of the lake. So far, 10 trillion rials (about $238,95,238 million) have been allocated for the implementation of this project.
