The export of processed seafood increased by 39 percent in Iran in the first six months of this Iranian year (started on March 21, 2018) compared to the same period of last Iranian year, Director General of the Seafood Quality Improvement, Processing and Market Promotion Department of the Iran Fisheries Organization Isa Golshahi said.
He said that this Iranian year the export of seafood has increased by at least 18 percent.
About 350,000 tons of seafood are processed in the country, Golshahi added.
He said that 180,000-190,000 tons of 350,000 tons account for processed tuna fish and can be used in canning industry.
Some products are processed in northern Iran while others in southern Iran, he said.
Golshahi said that presently, there are 400 seafood processing plants in the country.
