Iran has inaugurated $370,000 worth projects that included operation of 12 container cranes in terminal 2 of Shahid Rajaee Port.
"The project has been partly financed by the private sector,” said the CEO of Iran Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) Mohammad Rastad, Trend reports citing Fars News Agency.
"While 12 container cranes operate in Shahid Rajaee Port, the development of a container terminal in Shahid Rajaee Port is in progress,” he added.
Rasted noted that Iran’s maritime industry cannot be threatened and so far, despite all the pressures, 240 million tons of cargo have been loaded and unloaded in the country, he said.
"In the current situation, maritime transportation should be provided with the best quality and the maritime cooperation and services should be increased," he added.
Referring to recent memorandum of understanding between PMO and Maritime Industry Organization for domestic marine vessel production, Rasted said that utilizing domestic products in maritime activities is a good opportunity in the current situation.
He pointed out that Iran Ports and Maritime Organization plans to produce strategic equipment, and domestic production of gantry cranes is part of this plan.
He noted that Iran's ports have created job opportunity for 30,000 people, while insisted on the necessity to reach low sulfur fuel for ships until 2020.
