Export of products from Iran's Arvand Free Zone to Iraq up by 30%

Exports from Arvand Free Zone in Iran’s southwestern Khuzestan Province to Iraq increased by 30 percent during the first two months (March 21-May 21) of the current Iranian year (started on March 21, 2019), when compared to the same period last year (started on March 21, 2018), Ali Mousavi, Deputy Managing Director of Iran's Arvand Free Zone Organization (AFZO), told IRNA, Trend reports.

According to Mousavi, exports of goods from border trade zones of Shalamcheh and Khorramshahr to Iraq exceeded $40 million during the first month (March 21 - April 20), which is a $9-million increase compared to $31 million in the same month last year.

Mousavi added that export of non-oil products through the Port of Abadan increased by 69 percent this year. "Clinkers, steel ingots, steel products, fittings, mixed nuts and vegetable products worth more than $8 million were exported to Iraq, the UAE, Indonesia and Thailand this year," he said.

Mousavi added that currently, more than 10,000 people are employed at 166 production facilities in the trade zone, with 68 facilities operating in the Abadan Industrial Park, another 68 facilities operating in the Khorramshahr Industrial Park, and 29 entities operating outside the industrial park’s premises.

Arvand Free Zone occupies a 37,400-hectare area, located between the cities of Abadan, Khorramshahr and Minushahr.
