Increase in potato prices in Iran will be studied at the country's Market Regulatory Committee, chairman of Iran's national association for support of consumers' rights Hossein Ebrahimi said, Trend reports via ISNA.

Iranian Organization for the Protection of Consumers and Producers should also investigate to find out whether the cause of the problem is in exports or production, Ebrahimi said.

He further added that wholesale traders may also be the cause, since they might purposefully keep the goods in warehouses.

In recent days, potatoes prices increased from 30,000 rials (official rate - roughly $0.71; black market - roughly $0.23) to 70,000-100,000 rials (official rate - roughly $1.66-$2.38; black market - roughly $0.53-$0.76).
