Iran and India have agreed on the development of the Farzad-B gas field in southern Iran in the Persian Gulf, which is a joint gas field with Saudi Arabia, Deputy Executive Director of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) Reza Dehghani said.

“The issue related to the expansion of the development of this field has already been resolved with India,” Dehghani added, Trend reports referring to ISNA.

However, Dehghani has not disclosed any details.

It is assumed that the gas produced from the field will be supplied for processing to five plants, he added.

The quality of the gas extracted from Farzad-B was one of the problems during the discussions with the Indian side. Taking into account its low saturation with fatty fractions, the Indian side offered two options including either gas processing into LNG or the sale to Iran itself.

The Iranian side refused to buy due to lack of funds and because it will not need this fuel for the next five years.

The reserves of the Farzad-B joint field with Saudi Arabia are estimated at 21.7 trillion cubic feet (approximately 614 billion cubic meters), of which 12.5 trillion cubic feet of gas can be produced. According to the program, 1.1 billion cubic feet of natural gas may be extracted from Farzad field daily.
