Agricultural exports from customs of Iran's East Azerbaijan Province up by 50%

Exports of agricultural products via the provincial customs of Iran's East Azerbaijan Province increased by 50 percent during five months of the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2019) compared to the same period last year, Head of East Azerbaijan Agricultural Jihad Organization Akbar Fathi told journalists, Trend reports referring to IRNA.

According to him, $159 million worth of products were exported during this period.

Fatah added that $267 million worth of agricultural products were exported from this province last Iranian year (March 21, 2018 - March 21, 2019).

"Last year, raisins accounted for 45 percent, or $120 million, of agricultural exports," he said.

Fathi added that $25 million worth of products were exported from East Azerbaijan Province during the fifth month (July 23 - August 22) of the year, which denoted a 31-percent increase over the same month of the previous year.

“Rice, dairy products, tomatoes, lettuce and cabbage are the main products exported from the province. These products were mainly exported to Iraq, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, the UAE, Romania, Turkey, Russia and former Yugoslav states,” he said.

Some 13 percent of the non-oil exports of Iran’s East Azerbaijan Province consist of agricultural products.
