Tehran, Iran, Sept.29
Trend:
Referring to the reasons for the volatility in the automobile industry in Iran, member of the country's Parliament told Trend that the supply and demand of cars do not match and there is still tendency to interfere in the car industry by brokers and dealers.
"People have returned from their summer trips in September and some have sold their cars,” Member of Parliament's Committee of Industries and Mines Mohammad Reza Mansouri told Trend.
"This led to car price reduce in recent weeks."
"Unfortunately, there are rumors about car production halt, due to certain carmakers' violations,” he said, referring to the Iran Khodro and Saipa cases in Iranian court.
“Officials should be cautious in making decisions, as shutting down production isn't a proper decision to make, and it will eventually cause a shortage of cars in the market," he said.
“At the moment we do not have any shortage of cars,” he noted.
In recent days, reports have leaked to the media about the arrests of some Iranian automaker industry executives. In particular, Iran Khodro's Vice President Mustafa Khan Karami has been arrested.
The CEO of Iran Khodro Hashem Yekke-Zare was arrested on August 19. Yekke-Zare’s “uncoordinated decision” to increase prices was cited as the reason for his dismissal and arrest.
In the first five months of this Iranian year (started on March 21 , 2019), Iranian car manufacturing decreased by 39.8 percent compared to the first five months of the last Iranian year.
From the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 21 , 2019) to the end of August this year, 314,278 cars were produced in the country.
