Iran's agricultural exports reach $5B in current year so far

In the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2019), so far, Iran exported agricultural goods for $5 billion, Iranian Deputy Minister of Agriculture Mohammad Ali Tahmasebi said, Trend reports via the website of Iran's Agricultural Jihad Ministry.

Tahmasebi noted that $2.5 billion of the above mentioned amount accounts for fruits.

Main export destinations were Russia, Europe and the Gulf countries, he added.

Annually, Iran produces 23 million tons of fruits in an area of 2.8 million hectares, the deputy minister said.

In the last Iranian year (March 21, 2018-March 21, 2019), exports of dates and saffron were profitable, Tahmasebi said, adding that in the current year (started March 21, 2019), exporting pistachio, saffron, raisins, dates, citrus fruits, apples and kiwi is profitable for Iran.

The deputy minister expressed hope that there will be significant increase in the fruit exports.
