As many as 232,700 tons of dates have been harvested in Iran’s Sistan and Baluchestan province, Head of the Horticulture Department of the Sistan and Baluchestan Province Agriculture Jihad Organization Ardeshir Shahraki said, Trend reports referring to IRNA.

Shahraki said that date palms cover an area of 58,500 hectares in Iran, adding that 45,600 hectares of this area accounts for fruit bearing palms.

Shahraki added that the date palm gardens are mainly located in Saravan, Iranshahr, Nikshahr, Sib and Suran districts of the province.

The date harvest in the province began in June and will be finished by the end of October, Shahraki noted, adding that more than 40,000 people received jobs related to date harvesting in the province.

“More than 70 varieties of dates are grown in the province,” Shahraki said.
