Number of people crossing borders of Iran's West Azerbaijan significantly up

In the first seven months (from March 21 to October 22, 2019) of the current Iranian year, 3.3 million people crossed customs border crossing points of Iran's West Azerbaijan province, Director General of West Azerbaijan Road and Transport Department Arslan Shokri said, Trend reports citing Mehr News Agency.

For comparison, in the same period of the previous year, 2.2 million people crossed the border crossing points, Shokri said adding that the figure has increased by 48 percent this year.

Particularly, this year, 1.12 million people crossed Bazargan border checkpoint, while at Tamarchin and Razi checkpoints this figure amounted to 850,000 and 690,000 people, respectively.

During the reported period, 763,000 Iranians entered the country via borders of West Azerbaijan province, while 761,000 Iranians left.

Moreover, during the reported seven-month period, almost 900,000 foreigners entered Iran via borders of West Azerbaijan, while 870,000 foreigners left Iran.

There are five border customs points in West Azerbaijan province and 22 percent of Iran's all customs points account to the share of this province.
