Number of people getting unemployment insurance benefits in Iran declines

The number of people getting unemployment insurance benefits in Iran fell by 3 percent, said Director General of the Unemployment Insurance Department of the Ministry of Cooperatives, Labor and Social Welfare Karim Yavari, Trend reports citing Mehr news agency.

Yavari added that the number of people getting unemployment insurance benefits in seventh Iranian month (September 23 – October 22) of this Iranian year (began March 21, 2019) was about 255,000.

The director general noted that this figure was around 263,000 in the sixth Iranian month (August 23 - September 22).

The ministry official said that single workers who lost their job receive unemployment insurance for a minimum of six months and a maximum of 36 months, while married workers – for a minimum of 12 months and a maximum of 50 months, according to unemployment insurance rules.

Yavari added that unemployed people in Iran receive 55 percent of their daily wage as part of insurance.
