Iran expands drilling work at various fields

Drilling work with the total depth of 13,281 meters has been carried out in nine oil wells of Iran in the current Iranian year (began on March 21, 2019), Deputy Director of the Exploration Directorate of National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) Mohammad Reza Hor said, Trend reports with reference to the company's website.

Five wells were made ready for production by Feb. 19 after installation of certain equipment, Mohammad Reza Hor said.

Drilling work has been completed in three other wells and testing work is being carried out, the deputy director said, adding that production has started in test mode in another well.

The company eyes to increase number of drilling rigs in the upcoming Iranian year (to begin on March 21, 2020), Mohammad Reza Hor said.

According to him, currently, the company has seven drilling rigs and one more ring will be added in the next year.

Drilling work has started ta West Marun, Ram and Chelingar onshore fields, Mohammad Reza Hor said, noting that joint drilling work of NIOC and Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC) will begin in the wells located on the shores of the country's Sirri island in the Persian Gulf.

In general, there are 125 oil fields and 59 gas fields in Iran. Iran's total hydrocarbon reserves reach 836 billion barrels. By using the technological equipment, 239 billion barrels may be extracted. Iran may use 29 percent of reserves while 71 percent remain underground.
