Trend:

Iran has produced 112,000 tons of honey in current Iranian year (started March 21, 2019), said an official in Agriculture Ministry.

"Iran's beekeeping industry is an important part of agriculture and has significant effect on production of horticultural crops," said Farhad Moshir Ghaffari, Trend reports citing the ministry's website.

Beekeeping industry has considerable value and can bring foreign currency revenue for the country, he said.

Moshir added that the industry is expected to have progressive outlook in 2025 in the region and global market by using modern technology.

There have been agreements to insure the bees colonies that are being finalized, he said.

"Iran's honey products can have good export market in the world. Bushehr Chamber of Commerce plans to export honey via Asalouyeh," he added.

Moshir went on to add that there are currently seven stations that work on queen bee breeding across the country.

"There are 10.6 million bee colonies in the country , with 10.2 million being modern and 300,000 traditional," he added.

"There have been working groups to preserve and improve Iranian bee genetic reserves and reform queen bee breeding, alongside export development," added Moshir.
