Iran plans to release held up commodities from customs

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Mar. 3

Trend:

Ministry of Industries, Mine and Trade has approved measures to release $90 million worth of imported commodities that have been in sediment at customs by the end of the current Iranian year (started March 20, 2020), said the technical deputy in Iran Customs Administration.

"All these imported commodities were registered in customs and the entrance permit was issued for them before the Ministry of Industries, Mine and Trade announced an import ban on 3,000 items in 2013 now commodities have been in the depot at customs and ports since they have not obtained release code," said Mehrdad Jamal Arvanghi, Trend reports citing Tasnim News Agency.

"So far about $40 million worth of imported commodities are among the 3,000 banned items and about $50 million worth of commodities are part of commodities that have less priority to be imported including textile, stationery, banana, air condition devices that have been held at customs. Iran has imported around 20 million tons of commodities valued at around $32 billion during 11 months in the current Iranian year," added deputy minister of Industries, Mine and Trade.

The priority of the Ministry of Industries, Mine, and Trade includes the import of necessary commodities and raw material for production.

"In the current situation, we have faced foreign currency limitations for import and the entrance permit should be issued for commodities that do not have limitations and would not be damaged," he noted.
